Rosacea is a very common condition that can affect men and women of all ages and skin types. However, it typically affects fair middle age females and the condition tends to be chronic for those that are affected.
The cause is not well known but certain triggers can make the condition flare such as stress, spicy food, chocolate, alcohol, sun and topical steroids. There are 4 types of Rosacea that are widely recognized. More commonly, we see papulopustular rosacea which is mistakenly referred to as adult acne. Often, this is seen in the background of another type of rosacea referred to as erythematotelangiectatic rosacea which presents as general redness and flushing with discrete vessels on the face. Finally, there is ocular rosacea and phymatous rosacea.
